How Often Should I Have Eye Exams?

Regular eye evaluations are crucial. The American Optometric Association (AOA) recommends yearly check-ups for eyeglasses or contact lens wearers. Even those without vision correction needs should undergo annual assessments. Individuals managing conditions like diabetes and high blood pressure, which can affect eye health, often require more frequent visits.

For those aged 40 and above, biennial to annual evaluations are prudent, addressing age-related concerns such as presbyopia, cataracts, and macular degeneration. With increased vulnerability due to age, individuals over 60 should prioritize annual exams too.

Tailored Assessment for Your Little One’s Eyes

Statistics suggest that 5% to 10% of preschoolers and 25% of school-age children encounter vision problems. As per the AOA, all children should have eye exams at six months, age three, and when entering school. Kids with no vision issues should continue yearly evaluations throughout school.

Children with existing problems or risk factors require more frequent checks. Common risk factors include premature birth, developmental delays, strabismus, amblyopia, family history of eye disease, eye injury history, and other health conditions.

The AOA recommends exams every 12 months or per your eye doctor’s guidance for eyeglass or contact lens-wearing children.

Keep Your Eyes Sharp with Adult Eye Exams

For adults, regular eye exams are vital in maintaining optimal eye health and early detection of potential issues. We recommend that adults aged 18-60 have eye exams every two years, increasing to annual exams after 40, because of the higher risk of age-related eye conditions like presbyopia.

Our examinations check your vision and screen for eye diseases such as glaucoma, cataracts, and macular degeneration. We can provide timely interventions and treatments by monitoring changes in your vision and eye health.

Whether you need to update your corrective eyewear prescription or are experiencing symptoms like headaches or digital eye strain, our expert team at Alpine Vision Center is here to help.

Our comprehensive eye exams for seniors include thorough assessments to detect and manage these conditions early. This is essential for maintaining quality of life, as good vision plays a critical role in daily activities and overall well-being.
